How to Create a Private Facebook Group
Option 1: On Desktop
- Open Facebook , click on Groups , and then the + Create new group button.
- Enter a name for your group.
- Next, click on Choose Privacy and select Private – this means only members can see who is in the group and what they post. Note: You can also select Hidden under the Privacy section.
- Add a group description to explain the purpose of the group. And set a group cover photo.
- Click on Create .
Option 2: On Mobile
- Open the Facebook app and tap the three horizontal lines in the top right.
- Scroll down, tap on Groups , and then on the + plus icon in the top right corner.
- Select Create a Group .
- Enter a name for your group and select the Privacy option as Private . This means only members can see who’s in the group and what they post.
- Select Hidden under the Visibility section and tap on Create group.
How to Check if Your Facebook Group is Visible or Hidden
- On Facebook , tap on the hamburger icon.
- Tap on Groups and select Your Group .
- Tap on your group name to view the About section.
You’ll see Visible if you have a public group. However, you will see Hidden if you have a private group.
