How to Remove Community Chat in Messenger

By deleting a group chat, you take control of unwanted message notifications. However, you can permanently delete a community chat only if you’re an admin. As a group member, you can only hide or leave the chat. So, let’s get ready to tidy up your virtual space on Messenger.

Option 1: Delete a Community Chat (Admin)

Being an admin, you must manage the community chats to avoid inconvenience to the group members. Especially, after an event’s end or a project’s conclusion, the admin needs to remove a community discussion. Therefore, here’s the step-by-step process to delete a community chat on Messenger.

  1. Open the Messenger app on your device and tap on the three bars on the left side.
  2. From the opened menu, select the Community chat you want to delete.
  3. Now, tap the three dots on the top right and choose Delete Chat from the drop-down list.
  4. Again, tap Delete Chat to confirm deletion of that community chat.

Option 2: Hide a Community Chat (Participant)

Being a participant you can not delete the chat permanently. However, you can hide your communities from others. Follow the steps below to conceal your community chats on Messenger.

  1. Access the Messenger app on your device.
  2. Tap the three bars on the left side and tap on the Edit option beside the communities section.
  3. Uncheck the tick button for the group you want to hide.
  4. Then, tap Save to confirm the hiding of the community chat.

Option 3: Leave a Community Chat (Participant)

Leaving a community chat is another option for the participants if they don’t want to be a part of an unwanted community. By doing so, you’ll no longer receive notifications from the group. For this:

  1. Navigate to the Messenger app and tap the three bars to open chats and communities you’re active in.
  2. Select the community you want to leave and tap on the i button usually at the top right side.
  3. From the opened menu, choose Home . You’ll be redirected to the community’s Facebook page.
  4. Here, tap on the Join option, choose Leave Group , and confirm your action by tapping again on the Leave Group option.

When you return to your chat in Messenger, you see that the community chat is removed.
